Audi Widebody Build – Part 11: New Rear Bumper

Audi Widebody Build – Part 11: New Rear Bumper, Custom Spoiler Mount & Machining Mayhem

Sam Kimmel is back with a massive update to the StealthBuilt Audi A6 widebody project—and this one’s not just a tweak. It’s a full-on rear bumper redesign, a new plan for the exhaust layout, and the machining of a functional, adjustable spoiler mount.

Whether you’ve been watching this build from the start or you’re just jumping in, this is one of the most transformative episodes yet.

Why the Rear Bumper Had to Go

The original rear bumper—while functional—started to feel… wrong. Sam explains:

“It just started giving me early-90s Porsche widebody vibes… and that wasn’t the style I was going for.”

So, he:

  • Ripped off the rear bumper
  • Repositioned the exhaust
  • Cut back the flares
  • Installed a new bumper that exposed the massive 335s in the rear

Now, the tires are visible—and they look as aggressive as the car feels. A diffuser will be built under the center section, and the new exhaust layout will remain true duals, eliminating a previously considered (but disliked) side exit.put.

Front Aero & Lighting Updates

The front end also gets some love:

  • Extended aero lip, eventually to be molded in carbon fiber
  • Round cutouts for rally-style lights
  • Subtle, single canard/deflector on each side for a clean but aggressive look

It’s a blended aesthetic of Euro performance with custom flair—and the new design choices aim to stand out while staying functional.”

A Game-Changer: Adjustable Undermount Spoiler Bracket

Sam unveils a fully adjustable, undermount spoiler bracket, CNC-machined from aluminum:

  • Three-position pivoting arms for customizable downforce angle
  • Undermount sandwich design, with the wing attaching underneath the bracket
  • Still in rough form: machining holes, rounding edges, and painting come next

He walks through how the system works, from CAD to test-fit, and shares an important insight:

“I didn’t have a model… I made it out of cardboard and had a waterjet guy make a file. But I should have just brought it to the machinist first.”

Lesson learned—and shared.

Behind-the-Scenes: Machining Day at Fab Specialties

Sam takes us on a road trip to Fab Specialties in Alexandria, Indiana, where he and machinist Matt turn raw aluminum into functioning spoiler mounts.

What’s cool:

  • They use a marker in the CNC spindle to trace tool paths before cutting—an amazing no-risk preview trick
  • Sam shares the importance of test-fitting parts before machining
  • The shop visit ends with White Castle sliders and some well-earned laughs

This isn’t just about fabricating parts—it’s about learning, adjusting, and doing things right even if it means doing them twice.

Sam’s Reflections on the Build and the Future

Sam closes the video with an honest perspective:

  • The build isn’t done full-time—he’s juggling client projects, restorations, and custom furniture work
  • He’s building a Chris-Craft boat bar, a Coke machine resto, and multiple trucks, all while progressing on the Audi
  • The goal: get the car finished and road-ready this summer, then start mold-making and part reproduction

“I don’t have unlimited money—I work when I can, and I’m grateful for every person following the journey.”
